F.C. Internazionale Milano

I have been a follower of Inter Milan for the last couple of seasons. But really, I was always on the outside looking in. More of an interested observer than a die-hard fan. Actually, in the beginning, more a disciple of Zlatan Ibrahimovic than anything else. But now everything has changed. Ever since I saw them play live (in person!) at Pizza Hut Park vs FC Dallas (08/05/10) I am a true believer. I haven’t felt this way about a soccer team since the old Dallas Tornado when I was a kid. It dawned on me, sad to say, while watching the game that they are the first, and only, world class team that I have ever seen in person. Unless you count the New York Cosmos, and I suppose that argument could be made. Well, sort of. Individually, I saw Best, Pelé, Beckenbauer, Chinaglia, Cryuff, Marsh, and probably a few others. But never a European powerhouse in full regalia. So, for the first time in too many years to count, I will actually be passionately following a football team (other than my own!). And, judging by the last two matches, it could be a bumpy ride. If Benitez thought the British press was bad, just wait til the Italians start biting at his heels. It really doesn’t look too good for Rafa at present. Out of the pan and into the fire as they say. But only time will tell. It’s just two games, right? Stay tuned.
