The Offside Rule

I wish that all the referees and linesmen that we’ve had in our first four games would take the time to watch (over and over again) Samuel Eto’o’s third goal in Wednesdays Champions League match between Inter Milan and Werder Bremen. That is the same situation that I’ve found myself in numerous times this season only to be called offside nearly every time. Yes, when the ball passes the last defender Eto’o is in an offside position. Yes, when Eto’o first touches the ball he is ten yards behind every defender. But the overriding factor is that when Wesley Sneijder makes the pass, Eto’o is onside. And that is the only thing that matters.

It’s frustrating to me how many referees and linesmen there are who don’t seem to have a very good understanding of the offside rule. This goal by Samuel Eto’o should be required viewing.
